Cinnamon Sandies (Ojarascus)
Hi Nancy! I want to thank you for answering my question about the Magic
Bullet. I now have a recipe request. We bought some cookies at our Fiesta
grocery store this weekend that are so good and I was wondering if anyone
would have a recipe for them. They are called "Ojarascas" or Cinnamon
Sandies. I found some recipes but they are for such large amounts and
since there are only two of us I would like to see if anyone has a recipe
for just a few dozen.
Thank you so much! Lynette in Houston, TX
No newsletter was sent out on Nov.28th. I had
unexpected company from out of town and they wanted my undivided attention.
Can you imagine that -- they expected me to talk to them and turn off my
computer, LOL.
Dennis, you can take back your snow. We have
enough now.

Magic Bullet
Hi Nancy, in the Nov. 27 newsletter, Lynette in Houston mentioned the "Magic
Bullet" I just wanted to comment that I have one, and I love it! I use my at
least 4 times a week, some weeks more, for jobs as simple as chopping onions, to
bigger jobs like making omelets. But no job is a big job when you use the
"Bullet" .I'm like you Nancy, I love it!
Just wanted to put my 2¢ in. Oh, and Lynette, if you can catch the informercial
for it, it's really informative. I got a lot of extra ideas from it. Have fun,
and enjoy!

Nov. 6 Newsletter, Miracle Whip
changed their ingredients
I have used Miracle Whip for years, like it so much better than regular mayo or
salad dressing. When I read this from Robert in Ohio, I went to my fridge and
looked at the jar I have in there. Yes, water is now the first ingredient.
However, I have been using the new Miracle Whip with the water for a while, and
I have not seen any difference between the new and the old Miracle Whip.

Request for Soup or Stew Recipe
I had some soup that had macaroni, carrots, celery, white beans or it
looked like white beans and some sort of broth added to it. I am not aware of
the difference in soup or stew but this was a thick based soup. Does anyone have
this sort of recipe?

Grape Salad Variation
For Dotty in Humble: I have only made the Grape Salad with 1/3 fat cream
cheese, low fat sour cream and Splenda and I have had great results. I
have never halved the grapes. If your salad is too dry, try a little more
sour cream. It will not change the taste . Also, let it warm up just a bit
before serving it and it becomes creamier. Hope this helps.

Cake Balls recipe and
request for date of newsletter with Kolaches
Hello everyone! For Gussie from S. Louisiana, look at
11/23 newsletter for the Cake Balls
recipe, and look at 9/3 and
10/3 for Red Velvet Bon Bon and Oreo
Balls recipes. Hopefully one of them will be the recipe you want.
Was there a newsletter with the different variations of fillings for the
Kolaches? If so, could someone steer me in that direction please? Thanks!

Thursday!)
Kolachys
More on Kolachys.
We used the same ingredients for the crust as Gloria (SC) but used dried
mixed fruit, reconstituted (boiled in water until soft), for the filling.
Place 1 piece of fruit - prunes, apricots, apples, pears- in center of
each square, bring up each of 4 corners to meet in center, and bake @ 350
for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. We used to call these "diapers".

Question
Hello everyone, I trust that your Thanksgiving was a blessed one, and that
you are merrily getting ready for Christmas. Thanks to Peggy in NELA for
the Cake Balls recipe 11/23 newsletter,
and Gloria, IN for the info in the 11/23 newsletter on where to find the
Red Velvet Bon Bon and Oreo Balls recipes .
I was going to compare this to the Frosting and Chips Fudge recipes, and
see if different variations of the cake balls could be made as well. Just
dont know if I will have time to experiment before Christmas. My December
calendar is quite full!
Does anyone have any suggestions of what to get a painting instructor that
already has everything under the sun? No time to make anything personal,
so Im looking at store boughten. Thanks in advance!

Homemade Gift for baby
For Rose in NC: I had my little grandson pour different colors of sand
(found at a craft store) into a clear jar (found at almost any store, or
maybe even in your pantry). You can buy the sand to match your
daughter-in-law's kitchen decor. My grandson was absolutely SO proud of
his accomplishment. It looks way beyond what a 2-year-old could make. Hope
you enjoy this idea.
Jolene from Iowa
Homemade Gift for baby
For Rose in NC: I too had my first grandchild this past January. I wanted
to do something special for my daughter for Mother's Day.
I went to Hobby Lobby and got one of the hand molds for a baby. My son and
I did a mold of Madi's foot and hand. It really took no time at all. I
then painted both pieces with a coat of pearlized white paint, glued them
to the wood plaque that came with the kit and put the date on it.
Needless to say, it is a prized possession. The kit is like $9.95 and this
week there is a 40% off coupon in the paper. That would make it very
reasonable.
If you don't have a Hobby Lobby close by, A.C.
Moore and Michaels both have them. I think I ever saw the kit at Wal-Mart.

Rose, one of my most treasured possessions is a plain white washcloth with
the right hand print of my oldest great-grandson in red tempura paint and
2002 printed under it. He made this at his school and I framed it. Gussie,
I'm your neighbor from the tri-parish city. I'm glad that Thanksgiving is
behind us (I only had two granddaughters and their families) but now we
can start getting ready for Christmas when I usually have my four children
and their families which includes eleven grandchildren and ten
great-grandchildren.

I had a delicious appetizer in Waco, Tx at a place called Georges. The
ingredients, as best as I could tell, were boneless chicken, jalapeños,
cheese and wrapped in bacon. It was about the size of a bon bon. It was
not breaded but was fried.
If anyone has a recipe for this please post. thanks, Lin

Seafoam Salad Recipe
Hello everyone.
Sounds like we all made it through all that food, and enjoyed
Thanksgiving. This is for Roseann, who requested it
11/27; is my Grandma's recipe, updated,
and while sweet, it's not real real sweet; most of my family likes things
not too sugary, and DH the same.
SEAFOAM SALAD
1 (3 oz.) box lime gelatin
1 #2 can pears, packed in juice (if you have a real sweet tooth, probably
would want the ones
packed in syrup)
Pear juice plus enough water to make 1 c.
8 oz. of soft cream cheese (lower fat works great)
1 T. milk (again, lowered fat is fine)
1/2 c. heavy whipping cream (and this has to be the real thing!)
Drain pears, reserving the pear juice in a measuring cup; add the water to
make 1 cup; heat it to very hot in the microwave. Add it to the dry
gelatine in a glass baking dish or serving dish, about 8X8 or 9X9 is good,
stir till completely dissolved. Chill 40 - 60 minutes.
Chop pears coarsely , you can do this with a knife or scissors right in
the can.
Wisk cream cheese and milk till smooth, stir in the chopped pears; sit in
the refrigerator too if your gelatine has not started to jell; when it is
ready, stir the pears into it.
In a blender jar or food processor bowl that has been chilled, whip the
heavy cream; do NOT sweeten; when thick, stir it into gelatine also,
folding from the bottom of the dish where it has thickened the most, to
bring up the solids. There should be dark flecks and lighter places, just
like seafoam!
Chill, covered; serve on lettuce leaves if you like or on slices of
pineapple , or on peach halves if you suddenly need to stretch it for
company.
This is easy to double, but if you multiply it by any more you'll need to
whip the cream in more than one batch. Serves 6 - 8.
Enjoy! Marilyn in FL
Suggestions and a Request
for Christmas Luncheon
Good Eatings to all. I have a request. Each year in our office we enjoy a
Christmas luncheon. The company provides sandwich meats and rolls,
everyone else brings in something to share. In the past, I have always
tried to make something unusual...and now everyone looks forward to see
what I’ve come up with.
One year I made 6 different kinds of truffles, another year I made
Christmas mice cookies with a mouse made from a chocolate dipped cherry
and a Hershey kiss placed on ½ an Oreo cookie, another year I made a
Chocolate Mint 3-D Snowman cake, and last year I made a Penguin display
forming a cheese ball into an igloo and had penguins made from black
olives filled with cream cheese.
Now I’m stumped. I’d like to make something special, but I can’t seem to
figure out what to do. I’ve thought about cream puffs shaped like swans,
but they need to be filled right before coming in to work – I’d like
something that can be done without any last minute preparations. I usually
come up with my ideas from pictures or suggestions – Does anyone have any?
Thanks in advance.

Recipe for Grape Salad with
Splenda
Dotty, don't give up on the grape salad. When anyone takes it to church
the bowl is emptied. This is what I do with the low fat and Splenda. I
have never had mine taste dry. It is always creamy.
1 pound each, red and green seedless grapes, rinsed and dry
1 (8 oz) cream cheese low fat
1 (8 oz) sour cream low fat
1/2 cup splenda for baking (sugar blend)
topping 3/4 to 1 cup splenda brown sugar blend
1 cup toasted (in the microwave) pecan pieces
Mix cream cheese mixture
fold in grapes
Chill. When ready to serve, sprinkle topping over the mixture.

Favorite Christmas Recipe
for Old English or Boiled Cake
Happy Holidays Nancy, furbabies and nancylanders,
It's that time of year again when we all start baking our family favorites
for the holidays. I thought I would send along a "family tradition" from
my family to yours. My dear SIL requests this every year as it is her
favorite. I have made this in the small loaf pans to give as gifts. I hope
that you
will like it as much as my family does.
Christmas Cake
Yields: 2 Loaves
This is a delicious "Old English" recipe for a "boiled" cake. I have been
making it for more years than I care to remember.
2 cups Raisins, or currants
3 teaspoons Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Cloves OR 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
2 cups Sugar
1 cup Butter or margarine
2 cups Water
Dry Ingredients:
4 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 teaspoons Baking soda
Combine the first six ingredients; bring to a boil. Turn heat down and
simmer about 15 minutes. Cool thoroughly. Add remaining (dry ingredients);
Pour into 2 well greased loaf pans or a tube pan. Bake at 325° F for 1
hour.
Cool completely. Store tightly covered.
Note**My addition to the original recipe, I always add about 1 to 1-1/2
cup of walnuts coarsely chopped in with the wet ingredients and boil with
the first 6 ingredients. You may also add them with the dry ingredients or
leave them out all together, as you desire. I have used other nut or fruit
combinations as the inspiration hit me.. Be creative.
In the past when my Dad was alive I have made this into a fruit cake by
adding candied fruit. It was by special request by him as no one else in
the family liked it made with the candied fruit.

Need recipe for scalloped potatoes
I know there are 22 billion recipes for scalloped potatoes but I really
would like someone's TNT that doesn't call for adding canned soup. Mine
always taste good but sometimes when my back is turned they will curdle.

and sweet potato combo scalloped that was terrific and have not been able
to trace it.

Eggnog Cookies
Robbie Bowling Green, IN - I have made the Eggnog Cookies you submitted on
11/24 for several years and they are wonderful! I love the way they smell
while they are baking and the taste is out of this world. Because they are
a very pale cookie I usually sprinkle a combination of red and green sugar
on them before baking to make them festive. My children ask for them every
year.
I'm needing help finding a recipe. My husband and I just returned from
hosting a trip to Germany with a church group. One evening he was served
mashed yellow peas flavored with bacon with his pork knuckle and kraut. He
really loved it and has asked me to recreate it. I am willing to
experiment but wondered if anyone has ever made this side dish and would
share the recipe.
I am a 45 year old social worker married to a seminary professor/pastor.
We have three great kids, 18, 13, and 11. I was raised in upstate NY and
have also lived in Illinois (Chicago area), Indiana (Fort Wayne and Terre
Haute) and Hendersonville, Tennessee. I love to cook and collect recipes
and this is a wonderful place to do this. (Thanks Nancy for all your hard
work and hospitality - thanks members for your delicious recipes and

Lime Jello Recipe
To Roseann in Monday 11-27-06 Newsletter requesting a lime jello recipe.
I usually use lemon jello but lime would be fine also. I put 3 or 4
packages of jello in a 9x13 dish and an 8 ounce block of cream cheese on
top of the dry jello. Boil your water and pour it over the above and mash
cream cheese with a fork till all broke up and jello dissolved. Add your
cold water and can of crushed pineapple undrained and stir. Cut down on
the cold water to make up for the pineapple juice. Put in
refrigerator to set. The jello will be on the bottom, then the pineapple
and the cream cheese on top. Very easy to make! A favorite of our family
for years.

Suggestion on Highlighting a
message to print
For Linda Boyles, Fairborn Ohio: If you are highlighting the page so you
can print it and the highlighting goes beyond what you can see, simply
move your mouse up a little at a time (still holding down the button)
until you can see where you are highlighting. Then scroll down slowly and
the page should scroll up, showing you what you are highlighting.

Suggestion on Highlighting a

Linda Boyles, Fairborn Ohio wants to know how to keep from highlighting
the whole page when it goes down further than she can see. If you click at
the beginning of the recipe then scroll down to the end of the recipe,
hold down the shift key and click. That should highlight the recipe only.
Hope this helps. Sandy in ND

Cocoa Mix Recipe
Cocoa mix For Sue in Washington request in
11-26 newsletter from Suzz NE
1 tsp. Hershey's cocoa + 3 tsp. sugar. Or, 1 C cocoa + 3 C sugar. etc. Mix
well. When ready, use 4 tsp. mix and enough canned milk to make a paste in
a 10 oz. cup. Then add enough canned milk to fill half the cup. Finish
with boiling water. Stir till well mixed. I suppose you could use regular
milk, mix to paste consistency, fill with regular milk and heat in
microwave or sauce pan though I haven't tried that because I like the
canned milk taste. Even canned skim and Splenda is good .
Suzzette
In the 11/26
newsletter Lorie in Orlando Fl asked for a recipe for pumpkin squares
using Bisquick. From what she describes it sounds like the "Impossible
Pumpkin Pie" recipe. She said the Bisquick is the crust of the bar and the
pumpkin is on the top much like a pumpkin pie. Lorie I hope this is what
you're looking for as this recipe makes it's own crust.
Evelyn from Tennessee
Impossible Pumpkin Pie
16 ounces canned pumpkin
12 ounces evaporated milk
2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup Bisquick baking mix
2 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
2 teaspoons vanilla
Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease pie plate, 10 x 1 1/2". Beat all ingredients in
blender on high speed 1 minute or until smooth.
If your blender doesn't hold 5 cups, beat the mixture with a mixer on
medium speed about 2 minutes or until smooth. Pour into pie plate. Bake 50
to 55 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
