Linda from Bayou Land in
Louisiana asked about cloudy shower doors. Clean door and
then dry with clean cloth. Then spray Skin So Soft (from
Avon) with a paper towel all over the door. It keeps your
door clear for about two weeks. SEE THROUGH CLEAR! I think
the shower sprays you spray on your shower tiles and doors
cause the door to cloud up. Not scum, hard water etc.

Good Morning Beth in
PA.. To get rid of the musty odor in the scarves try washing
them in Listerine Mouth Wash. This will remove the musty
odor.
Buster
To Beth D in PA.
regarding odor in scarves. I
read recently that someone uses about a cup of Listerine
mouthwash in the washing machine to get out the odor of
motor oil in clothes. This person said it worked like a
charm. While I can't personally vouch for this I think it
might be worth your while to try. It certainly couldn't
hurt.

Shower cleaning hint TNT
We have a large shower - all white tile including the floor.
About every 6 months my husband - what a wonderful person he
is - cleans it well. If necessary he uses bleach to clean
the floor grouting.
His secret is this - when it is thoroughly dry he waxes the
whole shower with paste wax like you'd use for a car. And
buffs it well. It does smell bad for an hour or so. BUT it's
so worth it. The whole process doesn't take that long and it
sure is worth it not to have to fuss with it every week.
There are just the two of us using the shower but he works
on 29 acres of land so he's not exactly a "cleanie" - the
wax makes it easy just to either spray the shower or if
you're really ambitious wipe it down.
I've also heard of people using an oil like Wesson Oil to
repel spots, etc. - but the paste wax lasts a long time.

Beth D. in PA was
wondering how to get rid of the musty
smell in the scarves she bought recently. I would
suggest washing them with vinegar in the water and hanging
them outdoors to dry.
Connie in TX
Beth in Pa was asking
about a musty odor removal..
try adding baking soda to warm water and letting your
scarves soak for a while.

This is for Mary G. In
Calif. who asked for carne asada recipes in the
5/31 newsletter. I found these
on the internet and thought maybe she would like to check
them out. Donna L. in OH
Hi Nancy. This is in
reply to your newsletter page 1 on
May 31st. You referred to your good news and bad news
when you moved back to Amarillo. No Krispy Kreme donuts but
do you still have your Sonic Drive In where you used to get
your $.99 banana splits? Everytime you mentioned them my
husband and I just drooled as we love banana splits but they
also like to leave weight on us.
Linda in Grass Valley
Comment
The Sonic was on the way home in Lubbock. After I moved back
to Amarillo it is no one I drive by each day. I am not sure
if they have them or not right now. They were sooooooooo
good. I went online to find their site and didn't see them.
I did find their nutrition guide with calories, carbs, fat
and fiber content. It was surprising to me how many
calories and carbs in their hamburgers.
Nancy in the
May 31 newsletter you mentioned that since you moved to
Amarillo there was no Krispy Kreme Donut shop anymore. Well,
the Wal-Mart at I-40 and Grand St. has a Krispy Kreme Donut
display right by the checkouts on the food side of the
store. I am not sure if the other Wal-Marts carry them also
or not. But, you should give the local Donut Stop stores a
try...I think their donuts are much better than the Krispy
Kremes we had while they were opened.
Mary in TX (Amarillo, too
Comment
I know they had Krispy Kreme doughnuts in Lubbock at
Wal-Mart but have not looked for them here. The Donut Stop
has great donuts too. I can almost smell the donuts right
now. I weigh in at Weight Watchers today and don't have time
to stop to check them out at Wal-Mart (thank goodness.)

For those of you who
keep asking for the Blender Cheesecake
because you missed it, it was in the May 10 newsletter, almost at
the very end of the page. I didn't send it originally, but
since I missed it the first time around and know others have
also, I'm sending it again. There were a couple of other
cheesecakes in that issue also. I'm also sending an unusual
cheesecake recipe I ran across today called Beer and Cheddar
Cheesecake. I found it in "More Favorite Recipes by Dear
Abby" and the ingredients sound interesting.
Blender Cheesecake
16 oz. cottage cheese
8 oz. cream cheese
8 oz. sour cream
1 cup sugar
1 Tblsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs
1/2 cup flour
Mix all ingredients in blender in order given starting with
cottage cheese and ending with flour. Mix well. Grease a 10
inch deep dish pie plate with butter and pour in cheese mix.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 325 for 40 minutes. Cool
and refrigerate. No crust but you wouldn't know it.
Beer and Cheddar Cheesecake
CRUST:
1 box (6 oz.) Zwieback crackers, finely crushed
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter (1/2 cube) melted
CHEESECAKE:
4 pkgs. (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened
6 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 3/4 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 egg yolks
1/3 cup beer
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 tsp. orange extract
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. In large bowl, combine
Zwieback crumbs, sugar and melted butter. Press onto bottom
and halfway up sides of 9 inch springform pan. Chill. In
large bowl, with electric mixer, beat together cream cheese
and cheddar cheese until smooth. Gradually add sugar,
beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs and yolks one at a
time, beating well after each addition. At low speed, beat
in beer, cream and orange extract.
Pour into chilled crust. Bake for 2 hours. Turn oven off and
leave cake in oven, with door ajar, 30 minutes longer. Cool
and chill overnight.
Serves 16.

For Mary in Ohio: This
spaghetti sauce is remarkably good - and it is sweet. It is
also different from any you've ever made, as the secret
ingredient is bread & butter pickles. Don't knock it until
you've tried it; everyone who eats it loves it as much as my
family.
THE BEST SPAGHETTI SAUCE YOU'LL EVER
EAT!
1-1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 T. olive oil
1-1/2 c. chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 T. flour
1 c. bread and butter pickles, chopped fine (measure after
chopping)
2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
6 oz. tomato paste
1 t. salt
2 t. oregano
2 t. basil
1/4 t. pepper
1/4 c. red wine (optional)
Brown ground beef and onion in oil. Add chopped garlic and
fry a minute longer. Add remaining ingredients and simmer,
covered, about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Uncover and
cook 15 minutes more to thicken. Serve over hot spaghetti.
You'll be sorry if you leave the pickles out of this. They
are the secret that makes this the best spaghetti sauce
you'll ever eat!

I have a question for
Caroline from St Louis. The champagne salad sounds both easy
and good, but was wondering about the amount of cool whip. I
don't think I have seen a 20 ounce carton of cool whip. I
just wanted to make sure of the amount before I tried making
the salad.
Thanks, Karen - Il
When I moved back to
Amarillo my friends were glad
to see me but the person that was the most happy to see me
was the Schwan's man. I use a lot of Schwan's products. They
have a lot of good products that work well for me. Siggy and
Ditto like their shrimp from them as well. When I need a
sweet treat their Schwan's pops are fat free and have 15
calories and only 4 carbs in them. I love their Fudge sticks
as well. They are only one point on Weight Watchers.
This time I got some Alaskan Salmon.
Thought it sounded good and has only 100 calories and 1 carb
per fillet. Does anyone have some recipes that would be good
using the Alaskan salmon. I have tried them grilled on the
George Foreman Grill and used a little lemon pepper on them.
Another way is to grill them with a little pepper on them
and squeeze a little lime juice on them. Tasted great as
well. Would like other ideas too.
Nancy
Sorry for the second
response in one day, but this is to answer the question from
Angela in Huntsville about the pretzel
salad. Both the 1/3 cup and the 1/2 cup amounts of
sugar are listed in the ingredients. The 1/3 cup is mixed
with the pretzels and margarine, and the 1/2 cup is mixed
with the remaining ingredients. Hope you enjoy the salad. It
is a favorite of ours.
Also, like many others, the bologna
salad recipes brought back many memories of my family
in my younger days. I still use that recipe often, only now
I make chicken or turkey salad instead of the bologna.
Probably the meat that we like the best fixed this way is
left-over roast beef. I grind it up just like we did the
bologna and use the same ingredients. It is delicious.

With all the talk about meat grinders I purchased a small on
at Tuesday Morning. They had small ones for $14.99 and
larger ones for $29.99. Seeing all the recipes lately using
the meat grinder got me in the mood to try it. I plan to
make some ham salad with it later this week.

Morning Nancy, thank you
for the great newsletter!!! In response to the
last newsletter for Nancy in
Houston and Linda from Bayou Land, the Mr. Clean Magic
Sponges are awesome!! It cleaned my glass textured shower
doors up without much effort. My countertops and
refrigerator was a breeze to clean! The best thing about
these sponges is that our local Dollar Store carries them in
a 2 pack for only $1. A small price to pay for making my
chores a whole lot easier!!

Does anyone have a
recipe for chicken wings like Ponderosa Steakhouse? I would
like a good TNT recipe for wings.
Donna in Merrill
Nancy our doctor has
asked us to cut back on fat. I was wondering if anyone has
made the Blender Cheesecake with low fat or no fat cottage
cheese, cream cheese and sour cream? I would like to have
there take on how the cheesecake turned out. Either way that
I make it I was going to use Splenda. We don't use sugar.
Thank you Nancy. Everyone have a great day.
