I'm not sure if this is the cole slaw Tona was wanting or not. I made it for the first time today & I cant stop eating it.

Hi Nancy and everyone, I've been catching up on newsletters and reading about the beer biscuits. It brought back memories of when my boys were young and I made a batch of beer biscuits. I made the biscuits with a can of flat beer, but didn't mention the beer until after we had eaten the biscuits. As soon as the boys finished eating they got up from the table and started staggering around like they were drunk. LOL As you can guess, we were not drinkers. :) They still mention those biscuits every now and then.

In one of the recent newsletters someone had requested a fried sweet that was somewhat like a donut. I wondered if maybe it was this recipe. These are wonderful. I ate the first one in South Dakota and later in Mollala Oregon at a rodeo. Very good and easy!

Indian Fry Bread
Mix together:
2 cups flour
2 tsps baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup powdered milk
(a small amount of shortening can be added)

Add enough warm water to form a soft dough, but not sticky. Cover with a cloth and allow to sit for about two hours. Shape into balls about 2 inches across and then flatten by patting with greased hands until a circle about 8 inches is formed. Have about a half inch of shortening heated in a large frying pan. Test the temperature of grease by dropping in a pinch of dough. If it browns quickly, the grease is ready. Fry the circle of dough on one side until light brown, then flip to brown the other side. The thinner the dough circle, the crisper the bread. I like it about the thickness of a slice of bread. This is very good served hot with jam, syrup or just powdered sugar.
